Welcome to Alpine Ski Mama
My name is Liana, and although I was born and I have spent my life in my homecountry, Romania, life recently brought me and my family to the Austrian Alps.
People sometimes imagine this move as a romantic adventure: snow, mountains, cozy chalets and hot chocolate. The reality, of course, is a little more complex than that, but also more meaningful.
My son, Christian, is an alpine ski racer. Skiing has been part of his life since he was very young, and as the years passed, the sport became more than a hobby. It became part of who he is. When you see ayour child so passionate about something, you start to wonder how far you’re willing to go to support that passion. For me and my husband Vali, the answer turned out to be: very far. Across borders, across languages, across comfort zones
And that’s how we ended up here, trying to build a new life in Austria — a place where skiing is not just a sport but a culture. School schedules, training programs, competitions, weather, daily life… everything is shaped by the mountains. It’s beautiful and challenging at the same time.
This is my way of documenting this journey. Not just the races and the travels, but the everyday pieces of life: what it’s like to start over in a new country, how it feels to raise a child in competitive sports, the moments of pride, the homesickness, the joy, and the snow that somehow gets everywhere.
I want to write for mothers who have children with big dreams, for families who love the mountains, and for anyone curious about what it means to live in the heart of the Alps. I will share stories, reflections, places we discover, small lessons, and hopefully some inspiration for others walking a similar path.
I’m not here to teach anyone how to live. I’m simply here to tell our story — honestly, gently, with respect for my son’s privacy and with love for the life we are trying to build.
So, this is the beginning.
A new country. A new chapter.
A new space where I can write and where we can connect.
Thank you for being here.
